First #scichat

I participated in my first #scichat last night, and I can see how Twitter can be useful. It did move quickly, however, and I am an "early to bed" person, so I was a little slow! I read a lot and didn't really contribute, though I did pick up a couple of good websites to search, and I added a couple of people to follow on Twitter. It was definitely interesting! Eric's video on how to get the most out of #scichat was excellent - very helpful. I was able to keep up fairly easily, and even check and bookmark (thanks to Diigo!) the links as people mentioned them. All in all, it was worth the 45 minutes I spent watching and reading! Next time I hope I can contribute to the conversation!

  1. I posted something similar after the chat. I think too (since this was only the 3rd chat I believe) that once everyone gets used to the format and follows more of the participants, the conversations will be easier to follow. Or if the comments are more focused on the topic? I did find it useful, and the time flew by! I've been involved in chats that seem to just drag on, so I kind of dreaded it. I think saving links and lurking at others, checking back was a little disruptive and since it is archived I might not do so much link saving in the future. I will continue to lurk because it's a good way to increase who you follow. Looking forward to next time.
